Adelaide Zoo welcomes Giant Pandas

Adelaide Zoo and Australia welcomes the four-year-old male Panda “Wang Wang” and three-year-old female Panda “Fu Ni,” on a joint research program for a 10-year stay in Australia. It is hoped that Wang Wang and Fu Ni will be the first pandas to breed in the southern hemisphere.

The pandas have received a huge response in Australia. Many families in Adelaide have started growing Bamboo shoots to welcome their new visitors from Sichuan Province. The pandas are housed in a new $8 million climate controlled luxury enclosure specially built for them that also includes refrigerated rocks to protect them from the Australian summer.  Read more...

Oasis of the Seas

The official naming ceremony for Oasis of the Seas will take place on Monday, Nov. 30 during a one night inaugural celebration fundraiser to benefit the non-profit Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The Royal Carribean Oasis of the Seas cruise ship will call on the Caribbean ports of St Maarten and St Thomas and Nassau, Bahamas. It is expected in Nassau on December 11 on its maiden voyage. These ports have completed dredging needed to accommodate the gigantic ship.

China Eastern Airlines to merge with Shanghai Airlines by year-end

China Eastern Airlines, the country’s third biggest carrier, said yesterday that it would complete its merger transaction with Shanghai Airlines by the end of the year.

“All the legal procedures will be completed by the end of 2009,” said Ma Xulun, general manager of China Eastern.

The Shanghai-based carrier said in July it would buy smaller rival Shanghai Airlines via a 9-billion-yuan share swap that would give it a market share of over 50 percent in China’s financial hub.  Read more...

Four Seasons, Jumeirah Planning to Open in Brazil

Nov. 19 (Bloomberg) — Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and Jumeirah Group plan to open their first hotels in Brazil as rising incomes in Latin America’s largest economy and the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic games generate demand.

“The time is right now for us to be entering the Brazilian market,” James Erlacher, senior vice president of development for the Americas at the Dubai-based Jumeirah Group, said in an interview in New York.  Read more...

LONDON—The European hotel industry posted mixed results in year-over-year results when reported in U.S. dollars, euros and British pounds for October 2009, according to data compiled by STR Global.

Figures for occupancy, average daily rate and revenue per available room ranged from double-digit losses to double-digit gains, depending on the market and the currency used for comparison.  Read more...

This is the latest example of the meaningful steps Expedia.com is taking to drive down the cost of travel and to put travelers first in everything the company does. Expedia.com is now the only major online travel agency to offer fee-free telephone booking for air travel. Sheraton Orlando Downtown hotel bought by Private Equity firm

Private equity firm Glenmont Capital Management LLC announced that it had acquired Sheraton Orlando Downtown hotel as part of a joint venture with Resolution Services LLC.

According to the hotel website, the Sheraton Orlando – Downtown Hotel will be leaving the Starwood system on January 16, 2010.

The Walt Disney World resort is the area’s largest attraction,  with the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, and Downtown Disney. The Jagannath Temple in Puri is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishna) and is located in the coastal town of Puri in the state of Orissa, India. The name Jagannath implies Lord of the Universe.  The temple is an important pilgrimage destination for many Hindu traditions.
