Premier Inn, the UK’s biggest hotel chain, has launched its first hotel in India and announces plans to open nine further hotels in India in the next five years.

Premier Inn is expanding in India to capitalise on the country`s developing business traveller market. Currently there are a limited number of budget hotel brands in India – and this represents an excellent opportunity for Premier Inn, with its strong budget hotel model.

Gordon Ramsay at Conrad Tokyo and China Blue each recognised in Michelin Guide Tokyo 2009

Tokyo, 19 November 2008: The Conrad Tokyo’s reputation as an exceptional dining destination has today been acknowledged by the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2009, with the presentation of one Michelin star each for its Gordon Ramsay at Conrad Tokyo and China Blue restaurants. The Guide also placed the Conrad Tokyo in the highest hotel award category recognising its sophisticated and spacious rooms, excellent access for business or sightseeing and for its role at the forefront of the latest trends.

Adelaide Zoo welcomes Giant Pandas

Adelaide Zoo and Australia welcomes the four-year-old male Panda “Wang Wang” and three-year-old female Panda “Fu Ni,” on a joint research program for a 10-year stay in Australia. It is hoped that Wang Wang and Fu Ni will be the first pandas to breed in the southern hemisphere.

The pandas have received a huge response in Australia. Many families in Adelaide have started growing Bamboo shoots to welcome their new visitors from Sichuan Province. The pandas are housed in a new $8 million climate controlled luxury enclosure specially built for them that also includes refrigerated rocks to protect them from the Australian summer.

China Eastern Airlines to merge with Shanghai Airlines by year-end

China Eastern Airlines, the country’s third biggest carrier, said yesterday that it would complete its merger transaction with Shanghai Airlines by the end of the year.

“All the legal procedures will be completed by the end of 2009,” said Ma Xulun, general manager of China Eastern.

The Shanghai-based carrier said in July it would buy smaller rival Shanghai Airlines via a 9-billion-yuan share swap that would give it a market share of over 50 percent in China’s financial hub.

The Puri Beach Festival 2009 is a five-day annual festival aimed at promoting tourism at Puri (Orissa, India).

The Jagannath Temple in Puri is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishna) and is located in the coastal town of Puri in the state of Orissa, India. The name Jagannath implies Lord of the Universe.  The temple is an important pilgrimage destination for many Hindu traditions.

The temple is famous for its annual Rath Yatra, or chariot festival, in which the three main temple deities are hauled on huge and elaborately decorated chariots.
